Abstract
The rise of the Internet has created an infrastructure ideally suited to the widespread distribution and dissemination of geographical information. As Internet GIS applications are being demanded by users, it is necessary to investigate new strategies for data compression, multiresolution, interfaces and so on. This paper describes an approach for multiresolution, which aims to reduce delays caused by the transmission and visualization of large vector maps over the Internet. This approach is implemented on the iGIS framework, which consists of a tool for rapid Web GIS application development, and it was designed in a multitier architecture.
