Abstract
A measure of nonlinearity which is defined by two linear systems is proposed to quantify the size of the nonlinearity in the input/output behavior of SISO nonlinear systems. As a result, the task of controller design for the nonlinear system reduces to the design a controller for the two linear systems. Two examples are provided to demonstrate these concepts
