Abstract :
A novel approach that allows for minimization of copper and iron losses in an induction machine (IM) while keeping a good dynamic response is proposed. This method is based on a simplified IM model that includes losses. The model, which only requires the knowledge of conventional IM parameters, is referred to a field-oriented frame. Using this model, the IM losses are quantified and an algorithm, based on a field-oriented scheme, is obtained. Experimental and simulated results are presented which show that it is possible to greatly improve the efficiency of an adjustable speed induction motor drive with the proposed control method while keeping a good dynamic response
