Abstract :
Analyzing the ship´s signatures from North-run, South-run, West-run, East-run over an array of underwater magnetic sensors, one can get the induced longitudinal magnetization (ILM) and the induced athwartship magnetization (IAM). But cannot get the induced vertical magnetization (IVM). To address this problem, the magnetic parameters of the magnetic moment method (MMM) model of the ship are adjusted by a trial and error process, according to the measured values of the signatures from ILM and IAM. Then the corrected magnetic moment method model of the ship is utilized to estimate IVM. For a mock up of the ship and a ship of complex structures, the calculated values of IVM are compared with the measured values, showing a good precision about 90%.
