Abstract :
A computationally efficient non-uniform digital FIR filter bank is proposed for hearing aid applications. The ten non-uniform sub-bands are formed with the help of frequency masking technique. Two half-band filters are employed as prototypes resulting in significant improvements in the computational efficiency. The example shows that the proposed filter bank with stopband attenuation of 40dB can be implemented with 14 multipliers and matches the hearing audiograms with less than +/-5dB errors.
