Abstract :
We first study the mapping of the Integrated Services IP (ISIP) traffic descriptors to the ATM counterparts, for the MPEG2 video traces developed in our lab. We employ the direct method of mapping and compare it with the indirect methods reported in literature. Second, we investigate the effects of internetworking on the ATM traffic descriptors, where ATM is to form a link in the path of a point-to-point connection. In this regard, we demonstrate how the datagram size, the interval during which the source rates are specified, and the scheduling discipline affect the traffic entering the ATM subnetwork. The outcomes of this research will help design reshapers or policers at the edge of (ATM) networks. They will also lead to efficient allocation of resources at intermediate (sub)networks
