Abstract

Researches have been conducted on t(symmetric) error correcting and all undirectional error detecting (t-EC/AUED) codes. Among the t-EC/AUED codes proposed so far, most are constructed by appending additional bits to the codewords of a t error correcting (t-EC) base code. The merit of this kind of construction lies in that one can determine the additional bits only from the Hamming weights of the codewords of a base code, which provides simple encoding and decoding of the code. The paper adds another construction method for t-EC/AUED codes based on t -EC codes. Though the proposed code is regarded as an extension of the codes given by Blaum and van Tilborg (1989) and Andrew (1988), it achieves a higher information rate and requires smaller encoding tables compared to the conventional ones
