Abstract
Atlantic salmon fish farming has become a large industry worldwide. The industry´s processes are examined, and the farming stages analyzed. Fish farming industry simulation model (FFISiM), a hierarchical, colored Petri net simulation model, was developed to simulate Atlantic salmon fish farming industry. The model simulates different companies´ situations in the fish farming industry. Because the model is implemented in a hierarchical structure, it is easy to scale the model for future simulations, and refinements can be implemented in all levels of the model. Several possibilities for refinement and sub model development are proposed based on existing models or ongoing research areas. The FFISiM seawater sub model is implemented in GPenSIM under MATLAB environment. Simulation of several cases from the fish farming industry with the seawater sub model show convincing results, and indicate that the model is well suited for simulating different situation that could occur in the Atlantic salmon fish farming industry.
