Abstract :
The authors describe a recent survey of American association of artificial intelligence members, which revealed motivational problems among managers. This situation was in contrast to high levels of motivation of artificial intelligence system designers. The survey results for AI system designers are compared to those of managers, and then the AI managerial data are compared to the US motivational norms for managers of computer personnel. Causes for the problems are discussed and suggestions provided
