Abstract
This paper presents a new algorithm for robust automatic tuning of first order process with dominating delay. At first, the controller is replaced by a relay, thus generating a stable limit cycle. A simple identification method based on time response is derived. Then, for enhancing the system robustness, a novel dead time compensator (DTC) with 2nd Butterworth filter (2BF) is proposed. The data of the responses is used to tune the DTC. Simulations show effectiveness and robustness of the auto-tuner as well as the improved performance gained by the automatic tuned DTC with 2BF for high-order process with long dead time though it contains a simple model (FOPDT).
