Abstract
The criteria for selecting and implementing a training project in the maintenance and operations areas of rail transportation are explained. The decision-making required in applying available technologies for interactive training, expert systems, graphics animations, simulations of varying degrees of complexity, and databases is discussed. Demonstrations of the technology used in light rail operator training at the Port Authority of Allegheny County and maintenance training for New York Air Brake are included
