Abstract
The previously introduced generalised cross-correlation, (GCC), function makes it possible to model spatial or temporal displacements which are smooth functions of position in contrast to conventional cross-correlation where such displacements are constants. This very much broadens the scope of correlation as a tool in areas such as flow or strain determination from sequences of images and in complex modulation applications. An introduction is given to GCC together with an examination of such applications
