Abstract :
Motorized wheelchairs having nonsteerable drive wheels in the front have several advantages over those with rear drive wheels. A major disadvantage, however, is that they are inherently unstable in direction. Additional destabilizing occurs when the operator has poor upper body muscle control. Modeling equations have been developed for these situations to aid in the design of automatic stabilizing controllers.<>
