Abstract
This paper evaluates the protective effects due to a bare conductor embedded near a buried telecommunication cable when high amplitude currents flow in the ground. This phenomenon usually occurs when high power lines, running parallel to telecommunication cables, are struck by a lightning discharge producing an arc between a phase conductor and the ground. Many numerical examples show the effects of the various parameters
