Abstract
Extended transmission line systems are of special interest concerning overvoltage protection for sensitive line terminations. The time dependent behaviour of the line currents, induced by interfering electromagnetic fields, essentially depends on the line length and the line terminations. Primary interfering currents will be generated on the line shield and, dependent on the transfer impedance of the shield, these currents will penetrate the shield and induce currents on the inner conductors. The simulation of interfering currents on a widely extended transmission line system will be discussed. Additionally the transient response of protection circuits against interfering transients for the protection of sensitive amplifier inputs is within this transmission line system is shown
