Abstract
This paper deals with a perception system for intelligent robots. Recently, subsumption architectures, behavior-based artificial intelligence, and behavior engineering for robotic systems have been discussed as new technologies for intelligent robotic systems. We also have proposed robotic systems with structured intelligence. This paper discusses a sensory network as a perception mechanism for a mobile robot. Simulation results show that the mobile robot can reach a target point without colliding with obstacles. Furthermore, we apply the sensory network to the fuzzy controller for a real mobile robot and show an experimental result of collision avoidance behaviors.
