Abstract :
Crop Growth Monitoring System (CGMS) which was developed by MARS (Monitoring Agriculture with Remote Sensing)Project in European Union (EU) Joint Research Centre (JRC) is a large-scale crop growth monitoring system. CGMS has made a wide range of applications in the EU, and has become an important part of MARS Project; it also plays an important role in scientific decision-making in the EU agricultural economy. The agricultural remote sensing applications center of Chinese academy of agricultural sciences introduced successfully EU crop growth monitoring system into China agricultural remote sensing system (CHARMS) through international science and technology cooperation project, and established crop growth monitoring system of China (China-CGMS). China-CGMS has been successfully applied to some main crops´ growth monitoring and yield forecasting. By modeling growth conditions of maize, rice and soybean using CGMS in Northeast China, parameter adjustment and model localization were made in this research. Results show that it is practicable to use China-CGMS for crop growth modeling in different areas and different crops. Some problems and future research directions about applying China-CGMS were discussed at the end of the paper.
