Abstract :
The internal structure, initiation and growth of water treeing (WT) is investigated using the direct observation method. Some commonly used polymers are investigated. Alternating-voltage at different frequencies, (50 Hz to 12.5 kHz) and direct-voltages are applied to laboratory made specimens. Many electrolytic solutions of different conductivities are tried. The effects of needle tip radius, electric field, and the time of voltage application are examined. The phenomena of WT are simulated and a computer model is developed, using the finite difference method. The experimental and simulated results show good agreement. The mechanism of WT initiation and propagation behavior is explained
