Abstract :
Analyses of any language´s phoneme set is very important in order to identify the features of digital speech and language for automatic recognition, synthesis, processing, and communication. Voice onset time (VOT) is one of the important features of stop subsets. VOT values can be applied only to stop phoneme subsets. In this paper we focused on only two stop phonemes, namely /d/ and /t/, where the former one is voiced and the later is unvoiced. We compared the VOT values among many languages in addition to three Arabic dialects. The goal from this study is to find the similarities and dissimilarities between investigated languages regarding this feature regarding these two stops, hence conclusions about these languages and dialects can be extracted.
