Abstract :
Summary form only given. The spatial light modulator (SLM) is a powerful tool for generation and application of ultrashort laser pulses. However, conventional SLM´s which are made of liquid crystals can not be applied to intense laser pulses because of their low damage threshold. We have developed a novel SLM that consists of a one-dimensional array of fused-silica plates. Since the fused silica is transparent over a wide range of spectrum, the device can be applied not only to the fundamental wave but also to the second and third harmonic of Ti:sapphire lasers. The fused-silica SLM is a unique and robust device for dispersion compensation of high-intensity femtosecond laser pulses.
