Abstract :
The paper presents the tools and techniques employed to perform a comprehensive voltage stability study to identify reactive compensation requirements for the transmission system. The study focused on both steady-state and mid-term time-domain dynamic simulations. Mid-term stability simulations along with a significant amount of load sensitivity analysis were performed to determine a prudent mix of dynamic vars (e.g. an SVC) versus static devices (e.g. mechanically switched capacitor banks).
