Abstract
We are working towards development of interactive robots for in house use. In house use of robots may vary from physical services to personal assistant and caregiver. We present here a robot that serves as a companion who helps Chinese kids in learning and improving their English Language skills. There are two versions of our robot 1) a soft robotic avatar and 2) a physical interactive toy robot. The robot interacts with users through speech and conventional I/Os. It not only teaches English to kids but also learns English language from instructor to enhance its teaching capabilities. This paper presents the developmental model of such robot, its performance and features.
