Abstract
Summary form only given. There is considerable interest in developing optical data links to meet the increasing bandwidth demands of local area networks (LANs). For premises distances of 300-500 m, these links currently use the commonly installed base of 62.5 /spl mu/m core diameter multimode fibre (MMF). Much interest is focused on developing techniques for achieving high speed transmission, over longer link lengths of installed MMR. We demonstrate a new technique that allows enhanced bandwidth performance by combining subcarrier modulation and multi-level signalling techniques to allow an aggregate 10 Gb/s transmission over 300 m of worst-case MMF.
