Abstract :
This paper proposes an adaptive spatial/temporal direct mode selection algorithm for H.264/AVC encoders. The proposed algorithm utilizes motion information such as mb_type and motion vectors originally produced from encoders so that almost no additional computation cost is needed. Simulation results show the proposed algorithm successfully selects the appropriate direct mode for various kinds of sequences and improves compression efficiency.
