Abstract :
The paper proposes a design support method to guarantee the data integrity of object-oriented database (OODB) systems from the viewpoint of access control. Database security will become a highly important issue in the future when network managing databases will be required to handle much more information about services and users. In consideration of the fact that more and more object-oriented paradigms are being introduced into network management, the authors believe that a security system for OODB systems is an issue of utmost importance. The main topics of database security are confidentiality and integrity. Research has been conducted on security systems for OODB systems, and some groups have reported successful results for confidentiality. However, there have been almost no reports of research conducted on integrity. The authors propose an implementation of a mandatory access-control system, which uses integrity levels to manage data integrity. They then discuss design support for the setting of integrity levels to meet security and other requirements
