Abstract
Summary form only given. The chemistry that may lead to wire aging in CF/sub 4//isobutane gas mixtures is being investigated. Aging tests using such mixtures exhibit transients, the magnitude and duration of which are dependent on both the nominal gas composition and the wire material. Film formation on the wire may explain these observations. An attempt is being made to link the observed aging behavior of the wires with both gas-phase and surface chemistry.<>
