Abstract :
The transmission properties of scintillating fiber optics (SFO) are analyzed. The energy absorption and scattering in SFO are simulated using the ITS Monte Carlo code. An analysis of the light generation and transmission is developed based on the ray method. Then the equations which describe the light transmission and detector efficiency are derived and evaluated. Light loss due to reflection and absorption is included in the evaluation. Measurements of the detector efficiency and spatial resolution were performed on two types of SFO. By fitting the experimental data to the analytical results, the light conversion efficiency and the absorption coefficient of an extra mural absorber were found. The detector efficiency at different energies was also calculated.<>
