  • Abstract
In this paper the basic features of a controllable series compensator and a static synchronous series compensator for voltage control are presented. Mathematical models of a controllable series compensator and a static synchronous series compensator, including a simplified transmission system model, based on a single- load infinitive bus, are developed. The impact of a controllable series compensator and a static synchronous series compensator on a voltage was studied. The basic mathematical background of the differences between a controllable series compensator and a static synchronous series compensator in terms of voltage control are presented. According to theoretical considerations, from the point of view of voltage controllability, each device has its own advantages, but in the case of low voltages or low loads a static synchronous series compensator is superior to a controllable series compensator.
