Abstract :
This paper describes the design and usage of two SMT packaged broadband amplifiers suitable for low cost sub mm-wave applications. Amplifiers shown in this article are a 1-to-40GHz traveling wave amplifier (TWA) and a 17 to 33GHz four stage power amplifier. Both of the amplifiers were optimally designed for 5×5mm surface mount (SMT) package. The TWA exhibits state of the art 15+/-1.5 dB of small signal gain between 1 and 40GHz, and 21dBm P-1dB output power at 26 GHz. The four stage PA exhibits 20dB minimum gain with more than 24dBm P-1 output power. Those are the only known or published MMIC amplifiers to work at these frequencies for SMT applications.
