Abstract
This paper presents the main features of Telecom Argentina long distance SDH network, including a general description of the system architecture and of the synchronization network. It also examines the origin of phase quantization in the SDH network and shows how phase quantization noise due to pointer justifications can arise to disturb voice and data services. Some measurement results performed on the wide Telecom Argentina SDH network and on digital exchanges are reported
