Abstract
A high-frequency resonant inverter is designed as an ac current source for a new electrical discharge machining power supply. The inverter is operated at zero voltage switching, thus the inverter presents minimum switching losses. The steady-state analysis and design of the circuit are described in the paper. The proposed alternating EDM power supply is intended for using with water as the dielectric fluid. The objective of the bipolar output is to minimize the electrolysis effect on the workpiece, which produces its oxidation and corrosion, and to achieve a stable machining with improved metal removal rate and surface finish.
