  • Abstract
A simulation model was developed to analyse the daily taxi and takeoff operation of a major metropolitan airport in Capital International Airport of China. The objective of this study is to optimise the terminal design, to identify the optimal combination of aircraft type, to improve gate utilization, and to calculate total number of arriving flights and departing flights hourly. This model helps planners to find the bottlenecks of the airport system, and can be used to study the effect of scheduling patterns, runaway utilization modes on airport congestion, flight delays and the effects of rare events.
