Abstract :
The high non-recurring engineering costs of integrated circuit design make rapid-prototyping an important field of microelectronics. For digital circuits, FPGAs are highly developed and have become indispensable as both development tools and application platforms. In contrast, the nature of analog circuits is much more complex and does not readily allow a mapping of any arbitrary analog behavior to a generic set of basic building-blocks and routing nodes. Therefore, field-programmable analog arrays (FPAAs) are very specific to the target application and have poor performance when compared to single-purpose ASICs.
