Abstract :
A general description is given of the uses of SAW based systems in communications satellite payloads. Applications to both fixed and mobile satellite services are included, together with a discussion of their basic rationale. Special emphasis is given to SAW systems for flexible channelization and routing of traffic, which appears to be the major future application; discussions of other possible applications are also included. Brief descriptions of recently developed system hardware, such as the SAW processors for INMARSAT 3, are given
