Abstract
Active sonar systems are faced with the difficult task of detecting moving targets in strong reverberation environments. Since the effective cancelling of the reverberation cannot be accomplished with a fixed notch filter, a filter structure to recover target signals obscured by the reverberation is proposed. The proposed scheme consists of an adaptive filter and a fixed filter. The optimum and suboptimum solutions are also considered. Experiments for an active sonar system are performed to examine the potential of the proposed structure for the target signal enhancement problem
