Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. The authors describe a method of improving contrast by the selective expansion of image histograms, which facilitates the overall examination of anatomically coherent parts of a chest X-ray using a sequence similar to that of the clinician, as well as exploiting the total dynamic range of greys available and the entire spatial image. The processing algorithm is executed almost instantaneously.<>
