Abstract
The Fraunhofer Center for Research in Computer Graphics (CRCG) developed Teleinvivo for DARPA and the US Army to support medical operations in Bosnia. TeleInvivo was originally designed to serve as a 3-dimensional (3D) ultrasound visualization tool for medical applications. The system´s first-of-its-kind software features fast volumetric visualization algorithms and efficient network collaboration tools for remote data analysis and consultation. TeleInvivo also readily accepts other forms of medical imaging data such as CAT, MRI, MRA, and PET. With TeleInvivo, users can exchange and manipulate data sets in geographically distributed collaboration. Since examination of many physical phenomena produce data that are inherently volumetric, TeleInvivo has been modified to view other, non-medical data sets. The system can now be made compatible with virtually any data set that can be expressed in terms of magnitudes within a 3D Cartesian grid. This paper presents an overview of TeleInVivo and its capabilities. It also presents results from the application of volume visualization and collaborative work environments to such diverse fields as underwater acoustics, geophysics, and medicine
