Abstract :
A numerical method is developed to solve the problem of designing a noncircular gear derived from a numerical angle relationship. The new numerical method is suitable not only for closed and continuous gears, but also for unclosed and discontiguous gears. A set of numerical calculation methods to decompose the gear pair into an equivalent fixed gear train with two same gear pairs is proposed in order to improve the transmission quality of the gear pair with a large varied range of pitch curve polar radii. Two examples of decomposing a gear pair are established derived from the numerical rotation angle relationships. This method is validated through the comparison between design results and theoretical data.
