Abstract :
The rapid progress of synchrophasor technology greatly promotes applications of wide-area measurement system (WAMS) in China. In this paper, a WAMS-based dynamic security assessment system (DSAS) is presented. Three recently commissioned WAMS projects, i.e., Jiangsu provincial WAMS, WAMS in Northern China power grid and WAMS in Three-gorges power grid, are introduced. Monitoring power system dynamics is the direct function of those systems, and their major purpose is assessing the dynamic security online of the concerned large-scale power girds. Key functions of the proposed systems are expounded and their effectiveness was validated with field test results.
