Abstract :
The author explores the data requirements of a navigable database; the sources of data and collection strategies required to construct an accurate, reliable database; and the means and methods used to insure that the resulting database meets the standard of accuracy, completeness, and currentness required for vehicle navigation now and in the future. Specific topics include the components of a high quality database; typical sources of data; source acquisition and evaluation standards; database quality assurance and continual database maintenance.
