Abstract :
New properties of the Gram matrix are presented. It is shown that the Gram matrix is the observability or controllability Gramians with the system realization in some special forms. It is further shown that these properties can be easily used for the computation of the Gram matrix in the time domain. Since the method involves only matrix manipulations, it is convenient to use in MATLAB. This method is shown to be more efficient than the existing frequency-domain techniques. The method is illustrated by a numerical example
