Abstract :
This paper discussed the advantages of using RFID technologies in Hongkong. Our strength is overcrowding as most of our populace of 8 million are residing in an urban area of less than 100 km2; thus, Hong Kong is an ideal beta site for field-testing new products. Furthermore, as one of financial centers in the world, a regional shipping hub, an international media center, a must-visit tourist/shopping center, and an emerging center of higher education, research and development, Hong Kong is a western city on Chinese soil that is strong in diversity and tolerance. The results obtained in Hong Kong are applicable everywhere. All in all, we are well prepared to play a role in the RFID-led mini-revolution. For illustration, you are welcome to visit the Science and Engineering Fair on Level 7 where you will find many new RFID applications developed in Hong Kong, including a UHF RFID system for libraries and a system for tracing-and-tracking a vehicle in a jungle of high rising buildings. Also shown are research projects in local institutions.Simply put, RFID will affect all aspects of life in urban and rural dwellings and we are, perhaps, witnessing the dawning of a new "era of artificial perception.
