Abstract
A study on the effect of hands on mobile handset antennas has been carried out experimentally with antenna prototypes and an active mobile phone. It is reported that the positive hand effect exists for small antennas in the 900 MHz band. Measurements of antenna prototypes and an active mobile phone show that the positive hand effect can improve antenna total efficiency by 1 to 2 dB in the 900 MHz band.
