Abstract
In this paper, this primary radiator was improved from the viewpoint of the radiation pattern. The primary radiator consists of the vertical strip transmission line on which an L-shaped array pattern is etched. It was fed by a microstrip line installed in an L-shaped metal mount through a coaxial cable embedded in the sidewall of the L-shaped metal mount. This sidewall acts as a reflection plate for the backward wave from the primary radiator and a unidirectional radiation pattern was performed. And moreover, the radiation pattern versus a width of the sidewall was calculated to examine a compactness of the primary radiator. Based on the calculated radiation patterns of the radiator and related characteristics, a planar antenna was fabricated and the performance was evaluated at 59.5 GHz.
