The report presents the results of the numerical simulation and experimental study of the helical electron beams (HEB) formed in magnetron-injection guns of 170 GHz/1 MW gyrotrons. The dependence of HEB parameters on the beam current is analyzed. The evolution of the transverse velocity distribution functions is traced at the variation of the beam current
