Title :
Work in progress - measures and evaluation in engineering technology (MEET): a TC2K outcomes-based assessment framework

Abstract :
The TAC of ABET establishes standards for engineering technology programs desiring accreditation. TAC of ABET\´s latest accreditation criteria, generally known as TC2K criteria, represent a philosophical shift in accreditation from a facilities-based to an outcome-based approach. This approach emphasizes objective program outcomes and an assessment process that measures student performance against these outcomes and provides feedback for improving the educational program. In order to prepare for the TAC of ABET accreditation visit, the Altoona College of Pennsylvania State University has adopted an outcome-based assessment framework for its engineering technology programs. The outcomes of each program are mapped to its courses. Course outcomes have been developed using a "condition, criteria, quality" format. This online assessment system called MEET (Measures and Evaluation in Engineering Technology) asks each engineering technology faculty member to judge student performance on each outcome related to his/her course. An interface has been designed that allows each faculty member to review the status of each course and to enter data when appropriate. This interface can be accessed as often as desired. Reports are automatically generated for use by faculty members, program coordinators, and university administrators. These reports are directly related to student performance on the defined outcomes
