Abstract
Recently there has been a considerable interest in generation of high brightness, monochromatic X-ray pulses of tens of picosecond to several nanosecond duration in multi-keV spectral region. While a majority of the work is based on using the Blumlein technique to apply a high voltage pulse in a vacuum diode, pulsed lasers have also been used for generation of high quality electron beams and multi-keV monochromatic X-ray pulses. We present an experimental study of K-shell X-ray generation in a laser driven vacuum diode in which electrons from a laser produced aluminium plasma are accelerated on to a point tip titanium anode.
