Abstract
An optimal control design and computation are presented for control of doubly diffusive convective flows. Convective flow is often undesirable in crystal growth and therefore it is natural to try and mitigate it. We will consider the canonical doubly diffusive flow in a rectangular enclosure in which natural convection occurs due to imposed thermal and concentration gradients. The control action to suppress the convection is effected by the movement of top wall. The results show that the control is effective in driving the convective flow to a purely diffusive flow.
