Abstract
Due to economic and environmental constraints electric utilities are forced to operate their power networks close to the capacity limits or in overload conditions. So, security analysis plays a very important role during the design, planning and operation stages. In this paper it is proposed an efficient steady-state contingency classification methodology that uses the rough set theory. The developed technique produces a classification of the system operating in four different states. The powerful methodology was applied to the 118 IEEE test power system. Finally, the numerical results were compared and analysed in order to obtain conclusions that provide a valuable contribution to the understanding of the power system security problem.
