Abstract
A study of the capacity of MIMO systems is presented, with particular emphasis on the analysis of mutual coupling effects on the radiation patterns based on method of moments and influence on the channel capacity of MIMO systems with ray tracing technique. It is shown that mutual coupling may lead to a distortion of the radiation pattern of each element compared with the isolated one. When inter-element spacing is less than 0.4 lambda in the receiver side, mutual coupling effects can improve the channel capacity of MIMO systems.
